I bought You Choose by Pippa Goodhart and illustrated by the wonderful Nick Sharratt almost a year ago at the recommendation of my local children's bookstore. Since then it has been on constant rotation, so much so that it is permanently in our family room. This is a wonderful book for encouraging a child's imagination and storytelling skills.
There is no real story just a series of questions and lots of fun illustrations. The idea is that you build a story around the illustrations and questions. So each time your child can tell a different story from the same book.
My boys love it and it is fun to watch them sit together and tell a story either together as they choose from the many illustrations what they want in their story or individually tell a story to each other, ie they take it in turns to "read" from the book.
I think this is a book for non-readers to early readers and possibly beyond, simply because it is about storytelling and using imagination rather than putting together letters to form words. I think you'll enjoy it as well.
Have a happy day.
This looks like a wonderful book Engracia - so good for little imaginations and for developing language skills. Thanks for sharing. Have a lovely day x
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing book! I think that's a great idea. I showed my Mum because she's a teacher and now just does tutoring and comes across lots of kids who are no good with storytelling and imaginative things. She said it's fantastic that you're doing this with the boys from a young age. Thanks for sharing Engracia.

you know i would love this. xo.
ReplyDeleteA lovely reminder this was a regular 'borrow' from the library when the boys were younger, but y'know it would be just as fun for them now. I will hunt it out at the library this afternoon. Thanks for posting - hope all is well in your neck of the woods!
