Touching Base

Hello there, I just wanted to stop by quickly and let you know I'm home. Thank you for all your emails and comments enquiring asking if all is well and it is.  Life is just really busy right now, the boys are home on their Spring holidays, we have overseas guests, the weather is just too wonderful to be sitting in front of a computer and I have a few more things on my plate at the moment.

I will soon post some holiday snaps, so I hope you will be patient.

Oh, last night on a current affairs programme, this American mum was interviewed, I don't know how contreversial I am being posting about her, but I think what she has to say just makes so much sense, what do you think?

  1. I saw that interview. I thought she was fantastic (and a real New Yorker, I think Kerry was a bit scared of her) and I completely agreed with what she said. Hope all is well.

  2. I didn't see the interview.
Welcome home. I hope you had a great time. We are fresh home too and a little overwhelmed with getting back into civilization and some sort of routine so I totally sympathize with your lack of time.
I look forward to seeing some snaps when you get time.
    take care.

  4. Oh, Engracia, I absolutely agree with her as well. Having worked as a public liability lawyer defending councils in playground cases, I saw what she was talking about. I did a post which touched on helicopter parenting - if you're interested, you can find it at http://lifeonplanetbaby.blogspot.com/2010/09/raising-next-generation.html J x

  5. I'm so glad you're home safely! I had a terrible moment one day driving when I realised I hadn't read your blog in a while, and hoped you and your family were ok. (Is that weird?!) So glad all's ok - welcome back and enjoy the blog break :)

  7. Welcome back!

I totally agree with what Lenore Skenazy says in that interview. Personally I think we do more harm than good protecting kids so much from potential risks. This way they'll never learn how to take care of themselves. Surely a parents job is to teach their child to eventually become independent by allowing them to suss out dangers for themself, in a controlled way of course.
